See You At The Light

Traffic is an interesting animal. I lived in Southern California for over forty years and the traffic there is insane! It took me forty-five minutes to go to my office, which was only five (5) miles away. To go into Los Angeles, pack a lunch. Commuters had to grit their teeth, hit the accelerator and hope for the best. Maybe they would actually get lucky and cut a whopping fifteen minutes off their commute.

Surface streets are a different thing. They were not as crowded, usually, but an interesting event caught my eye one day and has proven true anywhere I have been since. Many drivers seemed determined to get ahead of the other fellow or gal, as they rushed toward the inevitable stop light. I noticed that no matter how they broke their necks to get ahead of me, I would say, "See you at the light!" The vast majority of time this is right on. I usually pull right up beside or behind the car that put the pedal to the metal. I used to get tweaked a bit to have someone blast past me but now I know that I will end up at the same place as they do. This principle works wherever traffic light exist. So, just slow down, obey the speed limit and you will get there at the same time as the speeder. This is a sure fire way not to get a visit from the fellow with the flashing lights.
