An article in Restore magazine on the classic work of Edward Gibbon, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, pointed out that there were five major factors that brought down the Roman Empire.
1. There was an increasing love of show and luxury; that is, affluence.
2. There was a widening gap between the very rich and the very poor.
3. There was an obsession with sex.
4. There was a freakishness in the arts masquerading as originality and creativity.
5. There was an increased desire to live off the state.
Tell me, isn't this a picture of America today? All the same factors that destroyed the Roman Empire are present in our country right now, and if we look closely at the state of Rome at the time, we will find every form of sexual perversion and STD's that were destroying the people of the empire.
Are we going to let this bring down our beloved country? There is still time to reform this trend if we have the guts to stand up to it and stop it. But will we?
