Same Song, Second Verse: Mount Soledad War Memorial Targeted for Destruction!
Next Wednesday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the case of the Mount Soledad War Memorial, a 29-foot-tall cross in San Diego. Courts in California previously ruled that the Memorial is unconstitutional, and the federal government annexed the land in order to protect the Veterans' Memorial from destruction. The Memorial is surrounded by six walls with the names and photographs of war veterans, and has been standing since 1954. While the Memorial itself has only been up since 1954, war memorial crosses have stood on the site since 1913. This case is just another attack on our veterans' memorials, and demonstrates how far some will go to make sure that any kind of religious symbolism is wiped from the face of our country.
